Does a €156,000 limit hold against a medical evacuation?

The BNP Paribas information notice under insurance contract no. PT7, 04/2025 edition, sets out for the Visa Infinite €156,000 per beneficiary and per event, a €50 excess and the first 90 days of the trip. This file holds that limit up against the repatriation ranges we record, source by source, and spells out what "per event" does to the arithmetic.

What the BNP Paribas notice sets out, figure by figure

€156,000 per beneficiary and per event for medical expenses abroad, a €50 excess, the first 90 days of the trip: those are the three numbers in the information notice issued by BNP Paribas under insurance contract no. PT7, 04/2025 edition. A hospital advance is provided for, within that same limit.

€156,000, held up against an evacuation quote

A limit cannot be judged on its own: it is judged against the price of the act it has to pay for. Here are four ranges recorded from published specialist sources, for a medical repatriation or evacuation.

Departing fromRange recordedSource
Sudan, Somalia, DR Congo€45,000 – €140,000Diversified Quotes
Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Chad€30,000 – €200,000Le Ciel Africain
Nigeria€52,000 – €200,000SkyCare
United States€55,000 – €260,000Staysure, 2023-2024 claims

The bottom of every range sits comfortably below the limit; the top exceeds it in three cases out of four. In other words, €156,000 pays for a straightforward medical transfer and leaves a shortfall on a complicated one. And the flight is not the only expense: the care that precedes it draws on the same limit, since the limit is set per event. The full country-by-country ranges, and how they were recorded, are in the cost of a medical repatriation.

"Per beneficiary and per event": what the wording changes

Two words drive the arithmetic. "Per beneficiary": the limit is not shared out among the people covered, each has their own. "Per event": it resets from one claim to the next, but stays single within one claim. An accident that runs from local emergency care through a hospital stay to a medical transfer therefore draws on one limit of €156,000, from which the €50 excess still has to be taken. That reading, rather than the bare figure, is what tells you how much is left on the day the transfer is decided.

The common exclusions, quoted word for word

Page 12 of the notice issued in 04/2025:

« Les conséquences de guerres civiles ou étrangères, d'instabilité politique notoire, de mouvements populaires, émeutes, actes de terrorisme » — the consequences of civil or foreign wars, well-known political instability, popular movements, riots, acts of terrorism.

That text names causes of loss, not destinations: no list of countries is ruled out here. The drafting differs sharply from policies that exclude a whole destination — general exclusion no. 11 of the Amex Platinum terms targets advised-against countries themselves. None of which means a stay in an unstable area would be covered without reservation: the causes listed on page 12 are what settle it, and only your own notice, in the edition in force, lets you check.

One Visa Infinite, as many notices as there are banks

The contract number is the key: PT7 identifies the policy taken out by BNP Paribas, in its 04/2025 edition. Another institution issues the same card under another contract, with its own amounts and its own exclusions. No general figure holds for "a Visa Infinite" — not even the €156,000 quoted here. Note three things on your own notice: the contract number, the name of the insurer and the edition date. That trio identifies your cover; the brand printed on the card does not. The bank card insurance file sets out where the document lives and which phrases to look for in it.

What the VIP Pack changes on this one point

One point, and one only: medical evacuation and repatriation are unlimited, and emergency medical expenses abroad run up to CHF/EUR/USD 1,500,000. There is therefore no range to hold up against a limit, and no shortfall to estimate on the transfer. The cover, the price and the TSM / WinHealth structure are set out in full in the Amex Platinum comparison, and the four-product table in the bank card insurance file.

Two checks before you go

The official position on your destination is on the map of 207 countries, recorded every morning, with its dated history in the alerts feed: that position is what governs whether several competing policies apply at all. If the trip is a business one, the question also arises on the employer's side — the Duty of Care OS handles it, down to the certificate of compliance.

Frequently asked questions

What is the limit on Visa Infinite card insurance?

The only figure verified document in hand concerns the BNP Paribas information notice, insurance contract no. PT7, 04/2025 edition: €156,000 per beneficiary and per event for medical expenses abroad, with a €50 excess and cover restricted to the first 90 days of the trip. No general figure holds for "a Visa Infinite": each bank issues its own notice.

What does "per beneficiary and per event" mean on an insurance limit?

"Per beneficiary": the limit is not shared out among the people covered, each has their own. "Per event": it resets from one claim to the next, but stays single within one claim. Under the BNP Paribas PT7 notice, 04/2025 edition, an accident running from emergency care through hospital admission to a medical transfer therefore draws on one limit of €156,000, less the €50 excess.

Is a €156,000 limit enough for a medical evacuation?

It depends on where you are flying from and on the patient's condition. Of the 41 countries for which we record a sourced range, 19 have an upper bound above €156,000: the limit in the BNP Paribas PT7 notice, 04/2025 edition, pays for a straightforward medical transfer, not the heaviest cases. It also has to absorb the care that precedes the transfer, since it is set per event.

Does Visa Infinite card insurance cover a country that is advised against?

The BNP Paribas information notice under insurance contract no. PT7, 04/2025 edition, carries no territorial exclusion: at its common exclusions on page 12 it rules out « Les conséquences de guerres civiles ou étrangères, d'instabilité politique notoire, de mouvements populaires, émeutes, actes de terrorisme » — the consequences of civil or foreign wars, well-known political instability, popular movements, riots, acts of terrorism. The exclusion therefore targets causes of loss, not a list of countries. As each bank issues its own notice, yours is the one that governs.

Is the Visa Infinite insurance notice the same at every bank?

No: each bank issues its own information notice and takes out its own contract. The BNP Paribas one carries number PT7 in its 04/2025 edition, with €156,000 per beneficiary and per event, a €50 excess and the first 90 days covered. A Visa Infinite issued elsewhere may carry different amounts and different exclusions: note the contract number, the insurer's name and the edition date on your own.

How long does Visa Infinite card insurance cover a trip?

The first 90 days of the trip, under the BNP Paribas notice, contract no. PT7, 04/2025 edition. Beyond that, the document quoted provides no further cover. For comparison, the Amex Platinum France T&Cs applicable from 01/01/2025 set 90 consecutive days per trip — a similar length, counted differently.
