How we read these four advisories

Every country has its own scale, so we ask them all the same question: is the whole country advised against?

An advisory covering only areas of the country does not raise the answer: it stays “No”, and the area is shown in the relevant column.

The level shown on this page — and across this site — is the one published by the U.S. State Department, from 1 (normal precautions) to 4 (do not travel). France and the United Kingdom publish their own advisories, with their own rules: they add to that level, they do not replace it.

Recommended vaccines and medicines10

Routine vaccinesCDC ↗

Make sure you are up-to-date on all routine vaccines before every trip. Some of these vaccines include Chickenpox (Varicella) Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTaP, Tdap, or Td) Flu (influenza) Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) Polio Shingles

COVID-19CDC ↗

All eligible travelers should be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines. Please see  Your COVID-19 Vaccination  for more information.

Hepatitis ACDC ↗

Recommended for unvaccinated travelers one year old or older going to Honduras. Infants 6 to 11 months old should also be vaccinated against Hepatitis A. The dose does not count toward the routine 2-dose series. Travelers allergic to a vaccine component should receive a single dose of immune globulin, which provides effective protection for up to 2 months depending on dosage given.

Hepatitis BCDC ↗

Recommended for unvaccinated travelers younger than 60 years old traveling to Honduras. Unvaccinated travelers 60 years and older may get vaccinated before traveling to Honduras.

MalariaCDC ↗

CDC recommends that travelers going to certain areas of Honduras take prescription medicine to prevent malaria. Depending on the medicine you take, you will need to start taking this medicine multiple days before your trip, as well as during and after your trip. Talk to your doctor about which malaria medication you should take.

MeaslesCDC ↗

Cases of measles are on the rise worldwide. Travelers are at risk of measles if they have not been fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to departure, or have not had measles in the past, and travel internationally to areas where measles is spreading.

MonkeypoxCDC ↗

Monkeypox vaccination is recommended for any adult who anticipates any of the following activities during travel: Sexual or intimate contact with a new partner Sexual or intimate contact at a commercial sex venue, like a sex club or bathhouse Sexual or intimate contact in exchange for money, goods, drugs, or other trade Sexual or intimate contact in association with a large public event, such as a rave, party, or…

RabiesCDC ↗

Dogs infected with rabies are sometimes found in Honduras. Rabies is also present in bats. If rabies exposures occur while in Honduras, rabies vaccines may only be available in larger suburban/urban medical facilities.

TyphoidCDC ↗

Consider getting a typhoid vaccine if you might: Travel to areas with poor sanitation and unsafe water, including rural areas Spend a long time in Honduras, such as a month or more Visit friends or relatives Typhoid vaccine is not 100% effective. Practicing safe food and water habits , including washing hands at key times , can also help prevent typhoid fever .

Yellow FeverCDC ↗

CDC recommendations: Vaccine is not recommended. Country entry requirements: Direct travel from United States: Vaccine is not required. Travel from countries with risk for YF virus transmission: Vaccine is required for travelers 1–60 years old; this includes >12-hour airport transits or layovers in countries with risk for YF virus transmission. 3 Updated April 23, 2025 See footnotes

CDC Travelers' Health, re-read weekly — the recommendation depends on your age, vaccines and itinerary: confirm it with a doctor or a travel clinic 4 to 6 weeks before departure.CDC ↗read 10.10.2026

The official advice, in full

Source: France Diplomatie (health advice, in French).

In brief
  • Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory if arriving from endemic zones or transiting for over 12 hours; allow 10 days post-vaccination before travel and confirm requirements with your airline or travel agency in advance. France Diplomatie
  • Verify your travel insurance covers local treatment and medical evacuation; carry evidence of insurance and use private clinics where possible as public hospitals are underfunded and lack supplies. Foreign Office
  • Ensure sufficient medication supply for the trip; import of controlled substances (e.g., methadone) or psychotropic treatments requires special permits—check with the destination embassy or consulate before travel. DFAE

  • Fièvre jaune : o bligatoire pour les voyageurs en provenance de zones d’endémie ; séjour ou escale de plus de 12 heures). Il est conseillé de s’informer le plus longtemps possible avant le départ auprès de la compagnie aérienne ou de l’agence de voyages car un délai de 10 jours d’incubation est requis après la vaccination avant de pouvoir entreprendre le voyage vers la zone non infectée ;
  • Hépatite A : en fonction des conditions et de la durée de séjour ;
  • Fièvre typhoïde : en fonction des conditions et de la durée de séjour ;
  • Hépatite B : en cas de séjours fréquents ou prolongés ;
  • Rage : notamment enfants en bas âge, séjour en milieu rural ou éloigné des villes principales ;
  • Chikungunya : en cas d’épidémie ou de séjour prolongé ;

  • Porter des vêtements longs et couvrants ;
  • Appliquer des produits répulsifs cutanés sur les zones découvertes du corps ;
  • Protéger son logement (moustiquaires imprégnées d’insecticide, diffuseurs électriques, serpentins à l’extérieur, climatisation, etc.) ;

  • Se laver les mains régulièrement avec de l’eau et du savon ou des solutions de lavage hydroalcooliques, surtout avant et après les repas et le passage aux toilettes ;
  • Veiller à la qualité des aliments et surtout à leur bonne cuisson ;
  • Éviter la consommation de produits alimentaires (poisson, viande, volaille, lait) crus ou peu cuits ;
  • Peler les fruits et légumes ou les laver soigneusement (à l’eau saine) ;
  • Éviter les crudités, coquillages, plats réchauffés et buffets froids ;

Health — Foreign Office

Before you travel check that:

  • your destination can provide the healthcare you may need
  • you have appropriate travel insurance for local treatment or unexpected medical evacuation

This is particularly important if you have a health condition or are pregnant.

Emergency medical number

Call 911 and ask for an ambulance.

Contact your insurance company quickly if you’re referred to a medical facility for treatment.

Vaccine recommendations and health risks

At least 8 weeks before your trip:

  • check the latest vaccine recommendations for Honduras
  • see where to get vaccines and whether you have to pay on the NHS travel vaccinations page

See what health risks you’ll face in Honduras including:

- Zika virus

- malaria and dengue

- yellow fever

Altitude sickness is a risk in parts of Honduras. Read more about altitude sickness on TravelHealthPro .

Tap water is not generally safe to drink, but bottled water is cheap and widely available.

Medication

The legal status and regulation of some medicines prescribed or bought in the UK can be different in other countries.

Read best practice when travelling with medicines on TravelHealthPro .

You cannot use British-issued prescriptions in Honduras. To find a pharmacy (‘farmacia’) look for one of the big national chains such as Farmacias Siman, Farmacias Kielsa or Farmacia El Ahorro.

Healthcare in Honduras

State-funded hospitals are underfunded and medicines are in short supply. Make sure you have adequate travel health insurance and accessible funds to cover the cost of any medical treatment abroad and repatriation. Always carry evidence of your insurance. Use private clinics where possible, though these are only available in major towns.

FCDO has a list of medical providers in Honduras where some staff will speak English.

Updated 24.08.2026

Reconsider travel to Honduras due to crime and terrorism . Some areas have an increased risk. Read the entire Travel Advisory.

U.S. government travel restrictions

  • U.S. government employees working in Honduras are not allowed to travel to Gracias a Dios department due to safety risks.
  • U.S. government employees working in Honduras are not allowed to visit adult clubs nor casinos. Extortion, overcharging, criminal surveillance, and other potential criminal activity can take place in these locations.
  • U.S. government employees working in Honduras are not permitted to travel between cities after dark. After dark travel between Palmerola International Airport (XPL)/Soto Cano Airbase and Tegucigalpa is authorized. There is an increased risk of vehicle accidents and carjackings after dark on major highways.
  • U.S. government employees working in Honduras are not permitted to drive through or to high crime zones unless previously approved by the Regional Security Office. Designated high crime zones in Honduras include but are not limited to:
  • Distrito Central (Francisco Morazan):
  • Colonia Villa Nueva, Nueva Suyapa, Flor de Campo, Los Pinos, Los Laureles, El Carrizal, Villa Cristina, La Travesia, Pueblo Nuevo, Barrio Concepción, Villa Fanca, La Laguna, San Ignacio, and Torocagua.
  • Cortes:
  • Lomas del Carmen, Barrio Medina, Brisas del Merendon, Col. La Pradera, Col. Rivera Hernandez, Brisas del Sauce, La Planeta, Cerrito Lindo, Col. 6 de Mayo, Cofradia, Col. Central, Col. Hector Sabillon Cruz, Barrio El Centro, Barrio Barandilla, Chamelecon, Choloma.
  • Department of Colon

Crime

  • Violent crime is common. Common crimes include murder, armed robbery, and kidnappings.
  • Violent gang activity is widespread in designated high-crime zones.
  • Crimes may also include violent street crime, rape, extortion, human trafficking, and drug-related crime. Robberies perpetuated by motorcyclists on pedestrians are common.
  • Local authorities may lack the resources to respond effectively to serious crimes.

In December 2022, the Government of Honduras declared a “State of Exception” in response to high levels of extortion and other crimes. The declaration remains in effect and has been modified to include more cities. It allows the police to suspend constitutional rights in 226 of the country’s 298 municipalities.

Avertissement

  • toujours prévoir de conserver sur soi une petite quantité d’argent, qui sera remise en cas d’agression, dans une poche facile d’accès, quitte à cacher des sommes plus importantes ;
  • n’opposer aucune résistance ;
  • ne pas crier, de manière à éviter une réaction intempestive de la part de l’agresseur ;
  • ne pas négocier ;
  • ne pas faire de mouvements brusques et ne pas fixer l’agresseur dans les yeux ;
  • quitter les lieux de l’agression le plus rapidement possible et se mettre en sécurité (hôtel, commerce) ;
  • appeler systématiquement la police (911) et signaler son agression à l’ambassade de France ;

  • s’informer auprès des autorités portuaires ou maritimes compétentes et de l’ambassade de France au Guatemala avant d’entreprendre une navigation ou une traversée ;
  • s’assurer que les moyens de communications (valises satellites, radio HF, etc.) et les moyens électroniques du bord (GPS, balise d’alerte, radar, etc.) fonctionnent de façon optimale ;
  • informer une personne restant à terre de la route empruntée ; tenir régulièrement informée cette personne restée à terre de la position et convenir des jours et heures des contacts téléphoniques ou par courriel ;
  • laisser une consigne visant à prévenir la police nationale ;
  • maintenir une veille anti-piraterie 24h sur 24 ;
  • ne pas mouiller trop près des côtes dans les zones isolées ;
  • éviter le cabotage de nuit et la navigation isolée ;

  • privilégier un vol permettant d’arriver de jour dans le pays ;
  • vérifier les procédures d’opposition à la carte de paiement en cas de perte ou vol ;

  • ne pas changer d’importantes sommes d’argent à l’arrivée à l’aéroport, ne pas diffuser son adresse de destination, ne pas s’attarder devant l’aérogare et prendre un taxi sécurisé ;
  • éviter de se déplacer avec de grosses sommes en liquide ;
  • ne laisser ni documents ni effets personnels dans les véhicules ;
  • éviter de se déplacer dans les quartiers populaires (Comayagüela et quartier ouest de Tégucigalpa, plus précisément son marché « El Mercado ») ;
  • éviter de se déplacer seul et de nuit en tous lieux : se renseigner sur les zones à risques auprès de la réception de l’hôtel ou d’un poste de police ;
  • choisir de préférence un distributeur à l’intérieur d’une banque ou d’un centre commercial sécurisé, en cas de retrait d’argent à un distributeur automatique de billets. Ne pas retirer de grandes quantités d’argent, être si possible accompagné et agir de manière discrète et rapide ;
  • adopter en toutes circonstances une attitude discrète et ne pas attirer l’attention en exhibant argent liquide, bijoux, objets de valeur ou autres effets personnels réputés précieux ;
  • pour les femmes, éviter le sac à main (lui préférer le sac à dos) ;
  • dans les stations balnéaires, ne pas se promener en bord de mer au-delà des limites des plages surveillées. Sur route et en ville, éviter les zones désertes, les pistes ou les petites routes, circuler avec les portières verrouillées et de garder les fenêtres fermées en permanence ;
  • ne pas pratiquer l’auto-stop ou prendre à bord de son véhicule des auto-stoppeurs ;
  • en cas de possession d’un téléphone y enregistrer des numéros de téléphone d’urgence, notamment celui de l’ambassade de France (+504-3148-6632) ;
  • éviter les déplacements à pied, tout particulièrement la nuit, dans des endroits isolés (ville ou campagne). Se déplacer à pied est fortement déconseillé, même le jour, à Tégucigalpa, à San Pedro Sula et à La Ceiba. Il est de même déconseillé d’aller au café ou dans un bar seul(e). D’une manière générale, il est toujours préférable de se déplacer en groupe ;
  • il est fortement recommandé aux voyageurs de signaler leurs déplacements à leurs proches et, à ceux qui communiquent souvent, de veiller à maintenir un contact régulier afin d’éviter le déclenchement des procédures de recherches inutiles ;
  • veiller attentivement à ses affaires personnelles pendant les déplacements entre deux hôtels : garder ses objets de valeurs et documents sur soi et ne pas confier ses affaires personnelles à un inconnu dans les transports en commun ;
  • éviter d’utiliser ostensiblement un téléphone ou un ordinateur portable dans un lieu public ;
  • être vêtu le plus simplement possible, ne pas porter de tenue voyante ou qui pourrait être considérée comme indécente ou provocante ;

Regional risks — Foreign Office

This section has safety advice for regions of Honduras. It only covers regions where the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office ( FCDO ) has specific advice.

You should also read FCDO ’s overall travel advice and safety and security advice .

Borders with Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua

Armed robbers have targeted travellers after they cross the Honduran border into El Salvador. It is often better to cross borders in the morning as they sometimes close in the early evening and remain closed at night.

There are unmarked minefields in and around the border with Nicaragua. Avoid walking on unmarked paths or off main roads in these areas.

Bay Islands and north coast

The Bay Islands are generally safer than mainland Honduras, but there have been several attacks by criminals on visitors, including on the ferries to and from mainland Honduras. If you are visiting Roatán, travel with a reputable guide. If you are driving a car or scooter, avoid side roads in remote areas, which can be poorly maintained and unsafe during night time hours.

Take care on beaches in the north coast towns after dark.

There is a risk of criminal attacks and carjackings in and around Tela, La Ceiba, Trujillo and El Progreso.

Terrorism

There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. Stay aware of your surroundings at all times.

UK Counter Terrorism Policing has information and advice on staying safe and what to do in the event of a terrorist attack. Find out how to reduce your risk from terrorism while abroad .

Terrorism in Honduras

Although there’s no recent history of terrorism in Honduras, attacks cannot be ruled out.

Political situation

Protests can happen anywhere in Honduras. Although normally peaceful, these can rapidly turn violent with a general breakdown in law and order, including looting. The police have frequently responded with tear gas and there have been deaths and injuries.

Although protests are normally restricted to the main cities (especially Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba), the authorities can set up roadblocks anywhere at short notice and these cause significant travel disruptions. Your travel plans may be affected at short notice.

It is illegal for foreigners to participate in political activities. If you take part in protests, you may be detained and deported. Avoid all demonstrations and protests and do not try to pass through blockades. Follow the advice of local authorities and your tour operator or airline and monitor local and social media.

Crime

Honduras has one of the highest violent crime rates in Latin America. Although most serious crime does not affect tourists, you could be caught up in incidents as they can happen anywhere and at any time, even in tourist areas.

Protecting yourself and your belongings

Petty theft is a problem in cities and tourist areas, including the Bay Islands (Roatán, Utila, and Guanaja). Avoid walking around Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, and other main towns and cities in mainland Honduras. Be particularly careful at bus stations, airports, isolated beaches, tourist sites and on public transport. Keep your valuables locked away in a safe if possible. Avoid displaying valuable items like jewellery, cameras, tablets, laptops, and mobile phones.

ATM crime

ATMs are available in the major towns. Check with your hotel which ATMs to use, especially in Roatán. It is safer to withdraw money from ATMs in shopping centres and to change money in hotels or banks. Check ATMs for evidence of tampering, although affected machines may not be easy to spot. Do not withdraw a lot of money at one time and avoid withdrawals at night.

People have been killed and injured resisting criminals. It is useful to carry a small amount of money to hand out if you’re robbed.

Violent attacks against vehicles

There have been violent attacks on people in cars and buses. Using a reputable tour company for longer journeys may reduce the risks, consider alternatives to public transport (buses). For shorter distances, use radio-dispatched taxis or hotel taxis. It is generally safer to travel on main roads between major cities and tourist destinations.

Take precautions such as:

  • locking vehicle doors
  • keeping windows closed
  • not travelling after dark
  • travelling in convoy
  • not picking up hitchhikers

Take care if you’re travelling alone. In remote areas it may be safer to travel with others or join a tour. Do not accept lifts from strangers or hitchhike.

There have been attacks on roads:

  • from Limones to La Union
  • from Olancho via Salama to Saba
  • from Gualaco to San Esteban
  • from La Esperanza to Gracias

Local laws

You must abide by local laws. Learn about what you should do and how we can help if you are arrested or detained abroad.

Drugs

Penalties for possession, use or trafficking of illegal drugs are severe. Convicted offenders can expect lengthy jail sentences or heavy fines. Honduras is used as a drug trafficking hub between South and North America.

  • Pack your own luggage and monitor it closely at all times
  • Don’t transport other people’s packages, bags or suitcases
  • Never exchange money for strangers, as this is a common request from money launderers

Drugs, alcohol and travel

Exports

Honduran law prohibits the export of:

  • firearms
  • antiques and artifacts from pre-colonial civilizations
  • some birds, feathers, flora and fauna
Investments

Disputes related to property acquisition or other investments are costly and take time to resolve. Many tourists have reported complications during real estate transactions in Honduras. If you plan on buying property, or making other investments in Honduras:

  • seek legal advice in Canada and in Honduras before making commitments
  • choose your own Honduran lawyer specializing in real estate
  • avoid hiring a lawyer recommended by a seller
  • visit the property in person before purchasing
  • carefully review the sales contract as it may contain irregularities
  • confirm the name of the last owner and verify that the property is free of any mortgage or taxes from the local property registry (Instituto de la propiedad)
  • confirm that there are no heritage or land ownership disputes
Political activities

It’s illegal for foreigners to participate in local political activities, rallies or public demonstrations in Honduras. Political involvement may result in your deportation or expulsion.

2SLGBTQI+ persons

Honduran law does not prohibit sexual acts between individuals of the same sex. However, same-sex couples are not legally recognized. 2SLGBTQI+ persons could be discriminated against based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or sex characteristics. Avoid public displays of affection. Travel and your sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics

International Child Abduction

The Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction is an international treaty. It can help parents with the return of children who have been removed to or retained in certain countries in violation of custody rights. The convention applies between Canada and Honduras. If your child was wrongfully taken to, or is being held in Honduras, and if the applicable conditions are met, you may apply for the return of your child to the Honduran court. If you are in this situation:

  • act as quickly as you can
  • contact the Central Authority for your province or territory of residence for information on starting an application under The Hague Convention
  • consult a lawyer in Canada and in Honduras to explore all the legal options for the return of your child
  • report the situation to the nearest Canadian government office abroad or to the Vulnerable Children's Consular Unit at Global Affairs Canada by calling the Emergency Watch and Response Centre

If your child was removed from a country other than Canada, consult a lawyer to determine if The Hague Convention applies. Be aware that Canadian consular officials cannot interfere in private legal matters or in another country's judicial affairs.

Driving

You may drive in Honduras with your valid Canadian driver license for up to 3 months. At all times when driving, you must carry:

  • your driver’s license
  • your passport
  • the vehicle’s registration

In the event of a car accident:

  • remain at the scene
  • don’t move your vehicle until the authorities arrive
  • call 911 to report the accident and request Transit Police

Failure to remain at the site may be considered an admission of guilt under Honduran law. However, some accidents may attract a crowd that could turn hostile. If you feel unsafe:

  • ensure your windows and doors are locked
  • drive to the nearest police station or a secure location
  • report the accident to the police and your insurance company as soon as possible

If you are involved in a road accident causing injuries, you may be temporarily detained, regardless of culpability. International Driving Permit

Money

The currency in Honduras is the lempira (HNL). You cannot exchange Canadian dollars in Honduras. You can easily exchange U.S. dollars. ATMs are available in urban areas but not all foreign cards work at all ATMs or points of service. They may be rare in rural areas. A valid passport is required for all financial transactions.

Personal ID and travel documents

Always carry photo ID. Carry a copy of the photo and visa pages of your passport with you. Leave the original in a safe place. Make sure you always have the documents for your hotel, car rental, tour or ticket reservations. Local authorities may stop you and ask for documents confirming your travel plans.

Illegal drugs and prison sentences

There are severe penalties for drug trafficking (15 to 20 years in prison and a very large fine) and drug use (from 3 to 9 months in a rehabilitation centre). Honduran prisons are overcrowded and violent.

LGBT+ travellers

Same-sex sexual activity is not illegal. There are no laws guaranteeing freedom from discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation. There is no recognition of same-sex marriage. People in the capital, Tegucigalpa, are largely tolerant of individuals’ personal lifestyles and accept small signs of affection between same-sex couples. There is a more conservative attitude outside the capital and showing affection in public is not recommended. Read more advice for LGBT+ travellers.

Money

US dollars are widely accepted for exchange and payment. It is difficult to exchange British pounds in Honduras.

Entry requirements — rules for a British passport

This information is for people travelling on a full ‘British citizen’ passport from the UK. It is based on the UK government’s understanding of Honduras current rules for the most common types of travel.

The authorities in Honduras set and enforce entry rules. If you’re not sure how these requirements apply to you, contact the Honduran Embassy in the UK (Spanish language website).

Passport validity requirements

To enter Honduras, your passport must have an ‘expiry date’ at least 6 months after the date you arrive and at least 2 blank pages. Check with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet requirements. Renew your passport if you need to.

You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.

Dual nationals

When returning to the UK, British citizens must carry a valid British passport or certificate of entitlement . See Dual citizenship .

Visa requirements

You must have a visa to visit Honduras.

However, passengers of cruise ships are permitted to enter Honduras under a “short pass”. This allows passengers to disembark during the hours the ship is docked in Honduras (usually less than a day). If passengers remain in Honduras beyond the hours of docking a visa will be required. Check with your cruise line or with your nearest Honduran Embassy for further information.

Applying for a visa

Find out how to apply for a Honduran visa (Spanish language website - with English instructions on visa application process) in London from the Honduran Embassy.

If you are not in the UK, contact the nearest Honduras Embassy for information and instructions about how to apply for a visa. You can also contact the National Institute of Migration (Spanish language website).

To work, study or for business travel, you must meet the Honduran government’s entry requirements. Check which type of visa or work permit you need with the Honduran Embassy (Spanish language website).

If you overstay, you may get a fine that you must pay before you leave Honduras. For information on how to extend your stay or pay a fine, contact the National Institute of Migration (Spanish language website).

Make sure you get your passport stamped.

You will get a 30-day visit entry stamp in your passport when you arrive. Make sure the border control officer puts a stamp in your passport otherwise you may get a fine. If your passport is missing a stamp, return to the immigration desk immediately, or go to the National Institute of Migration in Tegucigalpa as soon as possible.

You can apply at an immigration office to extend your stay.

Travelling through Honduras

If you’re travelling through Honduras to another country (sometimes called ‘transiting’), you must follow Honduran entry requirements even if you do not pass through immigration. Contact the National Institute of Migration (Spanish language website) for information.

Are a health plan or a travel policy enough in Honduras?

A health plan reimburses at home; here, the hospital asks for a payment guarantee before admission.

  • Health plan — A health plan treats you at home. Here the hospital asks for a guarantee before admission — not a later reimbursement.
  • Travel policy — No area exclusion at this level — compare cap, deductible and covered duration.
  • A travel policy often has a territorial clause at level 4/4 and a 90-day limit per trip.
  • Have your IPID number or the PDF of the terms and ask an expert to call you back: the answer is in the document, not in the brochure.

How do I use the medical network on this page?

Around Tegucigalpa: 80 hospitals and clinics, 27 with a 24/7 emergency room, 40 pharmacies, 40 doctors' practices (OpenStreetMap, hospital list read on 16.10.2026).

  • Type your city, hotel or beach: the map re-centres, 24/7 emergency rooms come first.
  • Each row gives the phone when the source publishes it, the nearest street, directions and the Google Maps listing.
  • The PDF briefing repeats the same places, numbered on a printable map.
  • No customer reviews: OpenStreetMap has none, and we invent none.

Can I be treated in Honduras, or will I be evacuated?

0.5 physicians per 1,000 people (2020) versus 4.5 in Switzerland.

  • 0.5 hospital beds per 1,000 people versus 4.4 in Switzerland (World Bank).
  • With 0.5 physicians per 1,000 people (89% fewer than Switzerland), the nearest hospital does not always have the capacity for a serious case: evacuation to an adequate centre is the rule, not the exception — that is what unlimited evacuation and repatriation cover. Health spending of 249 USD per person (Switzerland: 11,784) goes with private hospitals that bill foreigners in hard currency and ask for a guarantee before admission: the direct payment guarantee is what avoids the deposit.
  • When the local facility is not enough, Maximum's medical team decides the evacuation to a suitable centre, and pays for it (art. 6.2.2).

Honduras: safety, in figures?

31.4 homicides per 100,000 people (2023) versus 0.6 in Switzerland and 1.3 in France.

  • 16.1 road deaths per 100,000 people versus 2.2 in Switzerland (World Bank, WHO).
  • UCDP (Uppsala University): 3 geolocated violent incidents, 4 deaths over the last closed period, each placed on the map.
  • The homicide rate is 52 times Switzerland's: violence is a real risk there, concentrated in the areas named by the official advisories. On the road, 7 times more deaths than in Switzerland: road crashes are the leading cause of death of healthy travellers (CDC) — seat belt, no night driving, a driver or a taxi from a rank.
