How we read these four advisories

Every country has its own scale, so we ask them all the same question: is the whole country advised against?

An advisory covering only areas of the country does not raise the answer: it stays “No”, and the area is shown in the relevant column.

The level shown on this page — and across this site — is the one published by the U.S. State Department, from 1 (normal precautions) to 4 (do not travel). France and the United Kingdom publish their own advisories, with their own rules: they add to that level, they do not replace it.

Recommended vaccines and medicines10

Routine vaccinesCDC ↗

Make sure you are up-to-date on all routine vaccines before every trip. Some of these vaccines include Chickenpox (Varicella) Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTaP, Tdap, or Td) Flu (influenza) Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) Polio Shingles

COVID-19CDC ↗

All eligible travelers should be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines. Please see  Your COVID-19 Vaccination  for more information.

ChikungunyaCDC ↗

All travelers should take steps to prevent mosquito bites. Chikungunya vaccination is generally not recommended. Travelers who wish to consider vaccination can visit “What to consider before traveling” on the chikungunya vaccines page to learn more.

Hepatitis ACDC ↗

Recommended for unvaccinated travelers one year old or older going to Seychelles. Infants 6 to 11 months old should also be vaccinated against Hepatitis A. The dose does not count toward the routine 2-dose series. Travelers allergic to a vaccine component should receive a single dose of immune globulin, which provides effective protection for up to 2 months depending on dosage given.

Hepatitis BCDC ↗

Recommended for unvaccinated travelers of all ages traveling to Seychelles.

MeaslesCDC ↗

Cases of measles are on the rise worldwide. Travelers are at risk of measles if they have not been fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to departure, or have not had measles in the past, and travel internationally to areas where measles is spreading.

MonkeypoxCDC ↗

Monkeypox vaccination is recommended for any adult who anticipates any of the following activities during travel: Sexual or intimate contact with a new partner Sexual or intimate contact at a commercial sex venue, like a sex club or bathhouse Sexual or intimate contact in exchange for money, goods, drugs, or other trade Sexual or intimate contact in association with a large public event, such as a rave, party, or…

RabiesCDC ↗

Dogs infected with rabies are not commonly found in Seychelles. If rabies exposures occur while in Seychelles, rabies vaccines may only be available in larger suburban/urban medical facilities.

TyphoidCDC ↗

Recommended for most travelers. Typhoid vaccine is not 100% effective. Practicing safe food and water habits , including washing hands at key times , can also help prevent typhoid fever .

Yellow FeverCDC ↗

CDC recommendations: Vaccine is not recommended. Country entry requirements: Direct travel from United States: Vaccine is not required. Travel from countries with risk for YF virus transmission: Vaccine is required for travelers ≥1 year old; this includes >12-hour airport transits or layovers in countries with risk for YF virus transmission. 3 Updated April 23, 2025 See footnotes

The official advice, in full

Source: France Diplomatie (health advice, in French).

In brief
  • Consult a doctor or international vaccination centre for health assessments and recommendations, including vaccinations, and consider a dental check-up before departure.
  • Carry only essential medications in their original packaging with an International Nonproprietary Name prescription, and verify their legality in the destination country.
  • Ensure all French vaccinations are up-to-date, particularly for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, and measles, as a vaccination booklet may be requested upon arrival.
  • Consider additional vaccinations for yellow fever, polio, Hepatitis A and B, typhoid fever, chikungunya, dengue, and mpox based on travel conditions and duration.
  • For British nationals travelling to Seychelles, check that healthcare is available and that travel insurance covers local treatment or medical evacuation.
  • Medical care in Seychelles is limited on remote islands, with basic services available on Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue; serious cases may require treatment abroad.

Faithful summary of the official texts below, which prevail.

WHO: no outbreak reported for this country in the last 24 months (Disease Outbreak News).who.int ↗read 12.10.2026

  • Fièvre jaune et poliomyélite : o bligatoire pour les voyageurs en provenance de zones d’endémie ;
  • Hépatite A : en fonction des conditions et de la durée de séjour ;
  • Fièvre typhoïde : en fonction des conditions et de la durée de séjour ;
  • Hépatite B : en cas de séjours fréquents ou prolongés ;
  • Chikungunya : en cas d’épidémie ou de séjour prolongé ;
  • Dengue : en cas d’épidémie active ou de séjour prolongé en zone endémique ;

Autres maladies

Hépatite A

  • Porter des vêtements longs et couvrants ;
  • Appliquer des produits répulsifs cutanés sur les zones découvertes du corps ;
  • Protéger son logement (moustiquaires imprégnées d’insecticide, diffuseurs électriques, serpentins à l’extérieur, climatisation, etc.) ;

  • Se laver les mains régulièrement avec de l’eau et du savon ou des solutions de lavage hydroalcooliques, surtout avant et après les repas et le passage aux toilettes ;
  • Veiller à la qualité des aliments et surtout à leur bonne cuisson ;
  • Éviter la consommation de produits alimentaires (poisson, viande, volaille, lait) crus ou peu cuits ;
  • Peler les fruits et légumes ou les laver soigneusement (à l’eau saine) ;
  • Éviter les crudités, coquillages, plats réchauffés et buffets froids ;

Health — Foreign Office

Before you travel check that:

  • your destination can provide the healthcare you may need
  • you have appropriate travel insurance for local treatment or unexpected medical evacuation

This is particularly important if you have a health condition or are pregnant.

Emergency medical number

Call 999 and ask for an ambulance.

Contact your insurance company quickly if you’re referred to a medical facility for treatment.

Vaccine recommendations and health risks

At least 8 weeks before your trip:

  • check the latest vaccine recommendations for Seychelles
  • see where to get vaccines and whether you have to pay on the NHS travel vaccinations page

See what health risks you’ll face in Seychelles .

Medication

The legal status and regulation of some medicines prescribed or bought in the UK can be different in other countries.

Read best practice when travelling with medicines on TravelHealthPro .

Healthcare in Seychelles

As a tourist, you must pay for medical treatment.

Residents in Seychelles from overseas need to pay for some treatment, including medication and prescriptions.

The main hospital is at Mont Fleuri in Victoria on Mahé, and there are local health centres in most residential areas. Victoria Hospital has an accident and emergency department, and facilities such as scans. There are many private clinics in Seychelles, mostly offering GP services.

French passport — France Diplomatie

In brief
  • French nationals are responsible for their own safety and should ensure they have necessary financial means for potential hospitalization or evacuation costs.
  • Navigation in the Somali Basin north of the Seychelles is strongly discouraged due to the risk of piracy.
  • Enhanced vigilance is required for pleasure boating in the Inner Islands' maritime zone and for maritime and land travel southwest of the archipelago due to illicit trafficking.
  • While the Inner Islands are generally safe, petty crime such as theft on beaches or in towns warrants caution, especially after dark.
  • Tourists should respect swimming bans due to currents, reefs, and dangerous wildlife, as rescue services are limited and some beaches are hard to access.
  • French nationals who lose their passport can obtain a temporary travel document for return to their country of residence from Seychellois immigration authorities.

  • respecter les interdictions de baignade qui sont affichées sur les plages ;
  • se baigner près des plages, à une distance réduite, en évitant les eaux profondes ;
  • s’abstenir de jeter des déchets organiques dans l’eau, susceptibles d’attirer la faune ;
  • éviter les maillots de bain de couleur vive ;

Terrorism

There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. Stay aware of your surroundings at all times.

UK Counter Terrorism Policing has information and advice on staying safe and what to do in the event of a terrorist attack. Find out how to reduce your risk from terrorism while abroad .

Terrorism in Seychelles

Although there is no recent history of terrorism in Seychelles, attacks cannot be ruled out.

Protecting yourself and your belongings

There is a risk of break-ins, robberies, burglaries and opportunistic thefts. Crime is generally non-violent, but people can have their bags snatched, cars and boats broken into or be robbed while walking at night.

Criminals may target parked cars, residential accommodation including guest houses, hotels, beaches, and marked and unmarked walking trails.

To reduce the risk to yourself and your belongings:

  • make sure your living accommodation has external security lighting, grilles and overnight security guards
  • use a hotel safe or safety deposit box to store valuables, money and passports
  • do not leave valuables in cars or anywhere on display
  • avoid carrying large amounts of cash or wearing expensive-looking jewellery or watches
  • carry a mobile phone with roaming capability for use in an emergency

Be particularly alert in:

  • Beau Vallon
  • the back streets of Victoria
  • any isolated area, especially at night

Call the Seychelles police on +248 428 8000 to report any incident.

Public nudity

Topless sunbathing is uncommon. Nudism is not accepted and is likely to cause offence.

Illegal drugs and prison sentences

Seychelles has strict laws on drug use and smuggling. Penalties are severe and may include fines and prison sentences, up to life imprisonment. This can be applied both for supplying and simple possession of any drugs, including when transiting through the airport. Bail is highly unlikely and prosecutions can take a year or more to come to court.

Seychelles International Airport has excellent technology and security for detecting illegal items, including cannabis. This can be used to scan the baggage of transiting passengers.

Pack all luggage yourself and never carry anything through customs for anyone else.

LGBT+ travellers

Same-sex sexual activity is legal in Seychelles, but attitudes vary. Same-sex marriage is not recognised.

Swimming

Beaches can be safe for swimming at some times of the year and dangerous at others. In general, the west coast is unsafe during the north-west monsoon (around December to March), and the east coast is unsafe during the south-east winds season (around May to September). Beaches at the southern tip are not suitable for swimming at any time.

Beaches do not always have safety information. You should not assume they’re safe. The popular Beau Vallon beach, and some other beaches, may have dangerous rip currents when the sea is rough.

There are not many lifeguards, though some are stationed on popular beaches. Ask for local advice about the conditions before you visit the beaches and follow any warning signs.

Visa

Entry requirements — rules for a British passport

This information is for people travelling on a full ‘British citizen’ passport from the UK. It is based on the UK government’s understanding of Seychelles’ current rules for the most common types of travel.

The authorities in Seychelles set and enforce entry rules. If you’re not sure how these requirements apply to you, contact the Seychelles High Commission in the UK .

Passport validity requirements

If you’re visiting Seychelles, your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay.

Check with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet requirements. Renew your passport if you need to.

You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.

Dual nationals

When returning to the UK, British citizens must carry a valid British passport or certificate of entitlement . See Dual citizenship .

Visa requirements

You do not need a visa to visit Seychelles, but you must get a travel authorisation before you travel.

When you arrive, you’ll get a visitor’s permit for 3 months. You can apply for 3-month extensions, up to a maximum period of 12 months in total, if you meet visitor permit extension requirements . You can apply online to extend before your current visitor’s permit expires or in-person at the Immigration and Civil Status Office in Victoria.

The visitor’s permit is free for the first 3 months, but there is a fee for each 3-month extension.

Applying for a travel authorisation

You must apply and pay for a travel authorisation online to enter Seychelles. You can apply up to 30 days before you arrive. In an emergency, you can pay an extra fee for an express application.

When you apply, you will need to show you meet Seychelles entry requirements. These include having:

  • a valid return or onward ticket
  • proof of confirmed accommodation
  • sufficient funds for the duration of your stay
Checks at border control

When you arrive, you may need to show proof you have travel insurance and are covered for any potential health costs.

Vaccine requirements

You must have a certificate to prove you’ve had a yellow fever vaccination if you’re coming from a country listed as a transmission risk .

For full details about medical entry requirements and recommended vaccinations, see TravelHealthPro’s Seychelles guide .

Customs rules

There are strict rules about goods you can take into or out of Seychelles . You must declare anything that may be prohibited or subject to tax or duty.

Taking money into Seychelles

If you are taking cash with a value of 50,000 Seychellois rupees or more into Seychelles, declare this when you apply for your travel authorisation.

American passport — U.S. Department of State

Frequently asked questions — travel insurance Seychelles

24/7 support number — +41 22 ••• •• ••An adviser goes through each question with you until you have an actionable answer: cover, hospital, entry rules, claims. Full number in your client area. You can also ask Maximum directly, just below these questions.
What is the official risk level in Seychelles today?

Level 1/4 — Exercise Normal Precautions, U.S. Department of State, retrieved on 13 October 2026.

  • Is the whole country advised against? United States: no · France: no · United Kingdom: no · Switzerland: no (reading of 27 September 2026).
  • Contractually, only an FDFA, FOPH or WHO advisory against the trip opens Module A (art. 18.1) — that is not the case today.
  • Travel with international medical cover and the 24/7 number (+41 22 ••• •• ••) saved: here the risk is not the advisory, it is the hospital bill.
  • We check these sources every morning and e-mail you the day one changes (Alerts button).

Is the whole of Seychelles advised against, or only some areas?

An area advised against does not rule out the country.

  • Official answers: United States: no · France: no · United Kingdom: no · Switzerland: no.
  • Keep your country of residence's advisory on booking day and on departure day: that is what your policy's clauses cite.

What are the entry requirements for Seychelles with my passport?

The rules depend on the passport, not on the destination alone.

  • French passport (France Diplomatie): Travellers must obtain a paid travel authorisation online before departure, presenting a valid passport, accommodation proof, return ticket, and sufficient funds. This authorisation allows for a short-stay visa upon arrival, extendable up to three months; longer stays require a paid residency permit. All COVID-19 related restrictions, including tests, vaccination certificates, and quarantine, have been lifted for travellers.
  • British passport (Foreign Office): British citizens must ensure their passport is valid for their entire stay and carry a valid British passport or certificate of entitlement when returning to the UK. Visitors require a travel authorisation, obtainable online up to 30 days before arrival, and must present a return ticket, confirmed accommodation, and sufficient funds. Upon arrival, a visitor's permit is granted for 3 months, with extensions possible for up to 12 months total, requiring an application before expiry.
  • American passport: the requirements are on the State Department country page (travel.state.gov).
  • Swiss passport: the FDFA refers you to the destination's embassy in Switzerland.
  • Pick your passport at the top of Before you go › Entry: the official text that concerns you comes first, with its “In brief” summary.

Do I need an insurance certificate for a Seychelles visa?

For a Schengen visa, yes: at least €30,000 of travel medical insurance (Regulation (EC) No 810/2009, art. 15).

  • Many other countries ask for it on entry or for a visa, case by case: check Before you go › Entry, with your passport.
  • Subscribe: the named certificate arrives by e-mail on payment, with your name, dates and limits (CHF 1.5M medical expenses, unlimited evacuation and repatriation) — the ones consulates check.
  • Attach it to the visa file; if in doubt about the format, write to us.

Is an Amex, Visa or Mastercard enough in Seychelles?

  • Amex Platinum — No area exclusion at this level — but three written limits: deductible and prior approval, 90-day cap, advance under conditions.
  • Visa — No express area exclusion — but a €156,000 cap, 90 days, and the war/instability exclusion in the background.
  • Mastercard — No exclusion in play at this level — but a €155,000 cap and 90 covered days.
  • Three lines to read in your notice: the duration (often 90 days per trip), the settlement (reimbursement afterwards or direct payment of the hospital) and the area exclusion at level 4/4.

Are a health plan or a travel policy enough in Seychelles?

A health plan reimburses at home; here, the hospital asks for a payment guarantee before admission.

  • Health plan — A health plan treats you at home. Here the hospital asks for a guarantee before admission — not a later reimbursement.
  • Travel policy — No area exclusion at this level — compare cap, deductible and covered duration.
  • A travel policy often has a territorial clause at level 4/4 and a 90-day limit per trip.
  • Have your IPID number or the PDF of the terms and ask an expert to call you back: the answer is in the document, not in the brochure.

  • Medical density above Switzerland: the question is not capacity, it is the bill. Seychelles: safety, in figures?

8.0 homicides per 100,000 people (2022) versus 0.6 in Switzerland and 1.3 in France.

  • 11.3 road deaths per 100,000 people versus 2.2 in Switzerland (World Bank, WHO).
  • The homicide rate is 13 times Switzerland's: violence is a real risk there, concentrated in the areas named by the official advisories. On the road, 5 times more deaths than in Switzerland: road crashes are the leading cause of death of healthy travellers (CDC) — seat belt, no night driving, a driver or a taxi from a rank.

Local laws apply to every traveller; here is what the official texts say.

  • Penalties for drug possession, use, or trafficking are severe, potentially leading to jail sentences, heavy fines, and even life imprisonment.
  • While same-sex sexual activity is legal, homosexuality is not widely socially tolerated, and same-sex marriage is not recognized.
  • To drive in Seychelles, you require a valid Canadian driver's license and an international driving permit; traffic drives on the left.
